Crans-Montana: Courage of the Mountains

A Trauma Relief Program for the Valais Community

THE MISSION

Supporting Recovery in the Wake of Tragedy - To honor the victims and support the survivors of the devastating New Year's Eve fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, David Lynch Foundation Switzerland is launching a dedicated Trauma Relief Program.

We are partnering with local and national institutions to provide the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique to:

  • First Responders (Police, Firefighters, Rescue personnel)

  • Healthcare workers and hospital staff

  • Survivors, affected families and friends of the victims

  • The Crans-Montana community and residents

ADDRESSING TRAUMA AND SHOCK

A Community in Mourning In the wake of the horrific fire that claimed 40 lives—including 20 minors—and injured 116 others, Crans-Montana and the Canton of Valais are navigating deep sadness and shock. While the immediate emergency response was "admirable" and filled with solidarity, the psychological aftermath of such a disaster begins immediately and may persist for years.

As noted by health experts following similar disasters, we must address the epidemic of toxic stress and trauma immediately to prevent the onset of severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

EVIDENCE-BASED HEALING

What is the Program? DLF Switzerland is deploying foundation-funded specialists to teach the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique. This is an effortless, simple self-help tool that allows the body to gain a unique state of profound rest, helping to dissolve deep-rooted stress and trauma,.

Proven Effectiveness for First Responders For over 20 years, this program has been successfully delivered to first responders, including those involved in the 9/11 attacks, healthcare staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and Los Angeles fires.

Research supported by over $35 million in grants from institutions like the National Institutes of Health (USA) has documented that TM is highly effective for:

  • Reducing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and insomnia,.

  • Improving resilience, focus, and memory.

  • Healing the traumatized brain to restore mental health and confidence in everyday life,.

"I stop to meditate during my breaks from fighting the wildfire and it has made all the difference." — Firefighter (Testimonial from similar relief efforts).

As a school psychologist I have used TM to help me stay clear, focused and centered while counseling students in this time of quarantine. It’s helped me let go of the overwhelming feelings that can emotionally engulf me during my sessions with students and families during these trying times."

— Angelica, Los Angeles Frontline Mental Health Provider
